In a large repository, or with clones on another machine, git calls take seconds. Obeya used to run some of them on its server's thread: fetching a new plan doc from main, picking a free clone for a card, checking a card's workspace on stop or approval. Meanwhile no canvas responded. Now these run in the background: a started card shows at once that its workspace is being prepared, and the canvas keeps its plan docs until the new ones are in place.
The canvas answers while git works
