Ticking a box in an external plan folder no longer counts as a merge

Shared by Daniel Sadilek on November 2, 2026

Some projects keep their plan docs in a folder outside the repository, where agents tick their workstream right away, before the pull request even exists. Obeya used to read that tick as the pull request being merged: the card went live just after approval, and the pull request was never merged. Now a tick in such a folder no longer counts as a merge. Obeya watches the pull request and merges it once it is ready, even when it has no checks. Plan docs inside the repository and folders without git are unaffected.

A box ticked on main still counts as merged without a reported pull request

For plan docs inside the repository, a box ticked off on the main branch counts as the pull request merged, also when the agent opened its pull request but never reported it and someone merged it by hand. A first version of the fix for external plan folders had taken that fallback away, which left such cards in their pull request for good. Only a box in a plan folder outside the repository no longer counts as a merge.
